Traditions of the Otterburn Society Cigars: Groucho Marx is famous for saying: "Given the choice between a woman and a cigar, I will always choose the cigar". This is the same sentiment held by the members of the Otterburn Society, at least whilst attending the Otterburn Seminar. Members have traditionally enjoyed cigars during the weekend of the Society conference, supplied by James Barbour, of Otley, Yorkshire, England, authorized supplier of tobacco and cigars to the Society. Champagne: Champagne has always played an important part in celebrations held at Otterburn. Members have enjoyed various bottles over the years, with the one exception of the Melchior. Members intend to have enjoyed the entire range of sizes offered, by their 25 th anniversary. The preferred supplier of Champagnes to the Society is Moët et Chandon. Toggies: A tradition dating back many years, a toggie is blown by each member on the conclusion of his presentation. Swords: An essential part of blowing one's toggie is to be dispatched in style. A unique collection of non ballistic weaponry is used for this purpose. The Honerable Laird of Fingesk is a practiced proponent of this art. Anthems: Each member holds a copy of the Otterburn Society Song Book. |
